Chi Bedroom Layout
Chi Bedroom Layout
What's the best bedroom layout?
For a while I just had a long hallway with bedrooms on either side. This worked well for 7 or 8 3x5 bedrooms, but I now have 18 colonists and I've made their bedrooms 6x5 so they won't feel cramped, which means that the ones with bedrooms at the end of the hall have to walk super far. I tried to condense it by putting bedrooms against each other so colonists go through other bedrooms to get to their own, but now they wake each other up.
Is there a good setup for lots of colonists?

I do 5x5 unless I want to go fancy. I just litter bedrooms randomly in my bases where I want. Create a bit more organic layouts. Definitely not the best tho.

I don't think I mentioned it in that guide, but mood locks when you sleep, so bedroom spacecil is only important if they are meditating or praying. It does help towards the impressive room stats though.

Right, but a colonists mood don't change while they're asleep. Bedrooms don't really need to be spacious.

Check mine out, I started digging a base under a mountain, ended up having a big social area (kitchen, sofa lounge, pool table, large dining table) which is the fanciest part of the colony. Its right next to the freezer and most bedrooms are around it. I ended up with 5x6 and double beds, but right now I'm running out of space too.

COMMIEBLOCKS 2x2 room with a bed and a plant pot if they're lucky

So your farmers waste time to plant this useless stuff? You will end up better with small wooden statues and only for the most important comrades.

5x5 should be all that's needed to keep it from being cramped.
Have them share walls, but only have one entrance.

If you run mountain bases I highly recommend smaller bedrooms. With infestations being an absolute pain in the ass, you want to limit the amount of space that an infestation can occur in. Its easier to cook out a 5 by 5 room than a 10 by 10.

if you build bedrooms at the front of the dug out mountain entrance and a fair amount deeper infestations wont happen in the bedrooms

Just go for shared 12x20 barracks for singles with one hallway or maybe two for couples. Just make sure the guys in the barracks have synchronized sleep patterns.
A nicely decorated shared barrack is just as good as a personal room.

I like to make long alleys/strips with rooms that are 4X7. It' good in a mountain, and it keeps the people happy enough.
Outdoor bases I normally build a 10x8 room, and put 3 beds in it. If you marry, you get your own room with a double bed.

I always do 3x3. They don't get a mood loss from their room being cramped because the mood can't change when they're asleep. I don't see any point in giving them a better room (unless jealous).

I actually do 10x10 because I like to keep my colonist count under 5. 7x7 should be fine for a bunch. You want a bed, a chair, and a table
